Comments made in regard to the Miss Auburn pageant through 6pm Monday, February 4th are assembled here. Due to the Federal Way News site structure, stories are sometimes repeated with different url's (web addresses) on different days. This can lead to the impression that comments are deleted. All comments initially approved for appearance on the site are retained (as are unapproved comments).

"To add to my last comment... Isn't this a bit HYPORCYTICAL..? It seems that this program is supposed to build personal character. It sure seems like you (contestants) don't find that necessary in life, or to you [PARENTS (mothers)], that you don't care about your daughters maturity.

It seems like it's all about who's better than who, and who gets to "have the crown". It seems a bit odd that I need to point this out - lol! I still laugh at the fact that you mothers (and contestants) are so full of yourselves! You?re trying to get the title Miss USA... right..? Boycotting Cara!? Wow - you all are great, wonderful people I want to represent my country! I don't know names, but I know that only one of you girls congratulated Cara for her win. To everyone else, I have no, and will never respect for you. I am ashamed to say that you, and the people that are "backing" you in this argument are even exist, not to mention try and represent MY COUNTRY!" (from IP: 76.108.105.68 Source - Edit)

"It looks like the residency issue is still unresolved. The writer of the article did not ask about Cara's home (and for how long) or Cara's current school (and for how long). In addition, the issue with the judging panel looks quite suspect. See for yourself. It is not the norm to have local people judge their own local pageant. There are qualified judges from across this state and outside it if needed. Other pageants manage to do this. Hmmmm Tsk Tsk Miss Auburn (or should we say Miss Federal Way)." "Comments for TODAY's story are missing. By my count, well over 20. The do not appear on any of these links. The comments included quite a bit of feedback on the fact that the majority of the judges were local and that is not TYPICAL in WA state Miss Am. locals. Check the state website. You can read up and find out who all the judges are/have been at every local WA pageant for the past three years!" (from IP: 67.40.219.87 Source - Edit)

"From the video: Paul isn't campaigning for a fence, but he doesn't see it as a deal-breaker. What he wants is no amnesty of any kind, and no entitlements of any kind for illegals. While that may not look like a 'hard-core' position, interestingly it's the one that best satisfies the 'hardest' group on this issue, the Minutemen; they've endorsed him in both IA and SC.

"Editor--the comments that were on here are nowhere to be found. They are not on any of the links you've provided. Here was my comment that disappeared earlier today, soon after this story was released:

"Rudd recently received an Associate of Arts degree from Green River Community College"

How recently?

"The Miss Auburn program's franchise relationship with the Miss America program requires them to offer the "next closest" invitation to those contestants living outside Auburn."

This doesn't make sense. Since the MASP

is supposedly about the Auburn community and the winner giving back to the community by the year of service, why would someone who has no ties to Auburn (via work/school/residency) be allowed in the program? Why would Auburn sponsors and businesses want to contribute?

If the MASP is intended only to be a stepping stone to "bigger and better things" like Miss America, then just admit it and stop misleading the participants and the Auburn community.

"wow-

From reading this, it sounds like a lot of jealus mothers of this years contestants.

First off, get over yourselfes. What happened, did. Remember: there is next year.

Seccond, Cara did nothing to deserve this. She is a wonderful person, that apparently appealed to the judges better that yourselfes (or your daughters).

Third, I can say this because I know Cara. Myself, Mr. Brown and Mr. Lang are friends of hers. I do not say the above just because I know her, but because I can see what is happening here. The fact that some of you KNOW that you might get a bad name for slamming a contestant on no grounds at all, means something. (do you get the point... Or will I be getting slammed as well for speaking the truth..?)

Last, Mr. Lang and Mr. Brown don't need slamming, for the same reason. You are jealus, and can't get over the fact that you, or your daughters were beaten in a contest.

Also, do not ask stupid things like, "Who is Aaron" etc. Read this again, and don't be stupid." (from IP: 76.108.105.68 Source - Edit)

"This is truly a sick situation. My understanding of the Pageant is that a main part is to develop character and good citizenship in our young ladies. My daughter competed and had a great time even not winning. If all of the 23 girls really believe that character counts, they should reject any notion of "Boycotting Cara". Never let someone else's bad behavior cause you to sink to their level. There is never a ood reason to do a bad thing." (from IP: 24.18.23.26 Source - Edit)

"There were many of the girls very upset about the way they felt the judges decided the next Miss Auburn. The fact is, Cara is a graduate of SPU and the only contestant who has completed her undergraduate education. There were many girls in the competition who have competed for the Miss Auburn titles for Several years and who were more deserving of the crown than her. Now the common resident may feel that this is merely pageant drama but there were many girls who really believe in their platforms and have worked a lot harder and are of better character than Miss Rudd. There were girls in the pageant who are living and breathing the Miss Auburn Mission and continue to do so year after year. I feel that while yes her residency did raise a few hands, the conflict with Miss Rudd was more based on her backstage attitude and inability to show a good nature towards her fellow competitors. In a pageant such as this, if you do not walk away with anything material, you should at least walk away with solid friendships that last a lifetime. Miss Rudd certainly did not. This just invites scrutiny and complaints. This is the story that needs to written. Also ask the questions about where she lives (and for how long) and where she attends school (and for how long). After reading all the comments, I have a question for everyone involved is this: Is the goal to ruin/end this program or correct the problem? It sounds like those who want to correct the problem (both parents and contestants) don't care whether the pageant goes down in flames in the process. To an outsider reading the comments, it appears that this pageant must not be a very good program anyway.

Too bad, I think that it could have been a great opportunity for young women to further their individual education and community success." (from IP: 67.173.231.211 Source - Edit)

"I appreciated your article, but was concerned with how you portrayed Ron Paul's immigration stance: "Paul wants a wall built..." In the following interview, Ron Paul was quoted as saying he didn't like the idea of a fence.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/01/ron_paul_on_immigration.html

I believe he has held to this position in other articles as well.

Although every campaign has its fringe element (and the cause of liberty often attracts the most diverse and thus controversial group of followers), there are now instances of people posing as Ron Paul supporters, posting racist, anti-semitic remarks online and associating gross untruths with his name. This has been done by some in a blatant attempt to smear Ron Paul's campaign in the last forum of free ideas, the internet.

Please know that this comment is not a negative reflection on you at all, because I believe you do have a sincere voice and want to help further that for which Ron Paul and the campaign stand. Ron Paul has such integrity that his opponents cannot sling any real mud; they have to resort to back-door undermining. Every bit of truth counts.

Keep up the great work and sounding out the truth!" (from IP: 72.171.0.146 Source - Edit)

She is directly connected with many of the council people that worked on the pageant, and well as Mayor Pete Lewis.

Well Pete, this ads a whole new meaning to your city motto: "Auburn, it's more than you imagined !"

No kidding, it is the next 2008 watergate type cover-up of South King county.

Please note: We'll all remember the people involved with the paeant at election time.

Ally Cole - Miss Auburn 2000 on 02/04/2008 05:13:39 said:

"First, please allow me to congratulate all of the girls that competed this year. You were phenomenal!

I have had the extreme pleasure and honor to serve as Miss Auburn 2000. I wanted to take a moment to express my love and appreciation for this program, this city, the Auburn citizens and all involved with this program. The volunteers and board members are truly amazing individuals and they dedicate countless of volunteer hours to improve the lives of young women in and around our community. At the very least, I know that they have made such a positive impact on mine.

I am currently a small business owner in the city of Auburn and a sponsor of the program because I support what the program stands for, not because of the individual holding the title. I will continue to support Miss Auburn with my time and money because of the positive impact it has made on me and the future impact it will make on others. I would not be the woman I am today without those that surrounded and taught me in that year?all of whom, are still involved in the pageant almost a decade later (saying that makes me feel old ?.)

My family specifically contributes a scholarship to the ?Most Inspirational? contestant, which was given to Leilani Neilson. What an excellent recipient for this award! By donating this money to this specific title, it is my way and my family?s way of recognizing a young woman for more than their talent and beauty. This program is amazing for recognizing more than the crown with its numerous awards and scholarships, as so many other pageants simply have a minimal scholarship for those that walk away as the title holder. That is what makes this community great!

I did not know many of the girls personally this year, including Cara, so I do not care to speculate about character, but I do know that I am extremely proud of all of them for running and I am so thankful to the Auburn community for supporting this pageant and allowing these girls to earn scholarship dollars to become educated women that will one day, hopefully, give back to the Auburn community. It is absolutely remarkable that we were able to come together to give all 24 young women the opportunity gain a portion of the $75-80K+ raised this year. I am continually in awe of the generosity and passion that the Auburn community has.

Like I said, I do not know Cara personally but I can only pray that Auburn?s passion and generosity spills over so that she (or whoever holds the title) has no choice but to become a true supporter and believer in the community of Auburn and what it stands for. I have every faith that the Miss Auburn committee and community will express and teach the values that Auburn expects its reigning title holder to embrace to Cara and every future queen. And if they are smart young women, they will welcome these lessons with open arms. I know that I entered my year as Miss Auburn a very na?ve 17 year old and I had to be taught what Auburn was truly about and what the title of Miss Auburn really meant. This committee is AMAZING at emphasizing the community values to the current queen. The committee taught me that my first duty and obligation was to the community of Auburn and they would support me on my journey to state but they always emphasized that this title was so much more than a stepping stone to Miss WA. I trust they will do the same this year.

On a separate note, I also hope that the other 23 girls know that on a different day with a different set of judges the outcome may have been different and I hope they know that I, as a past Miss Auburn and sponsor, am SOOOO proud of them because they have accomplished and experienced something that very few get to. I pray that no matter who holds the title, you look back at your experience and ties with the Miss Auburn program with as much fondness as I do. I pray that the months leading up to the crowning taught you patience, poise, and gratitude, as they taught me. I pray that you can use your scholarship money to make yourself a strong and educated woman and that you, one day, can give back to another organization in the same way this community gave to you.

I understand that there are many emotions involved in this debate and I understand that many people will take issue with my words and disagree with what I say, perhaps even attack me personally. My name is attached to this message and I am human?I am not perfect and my words are far from ideal but they come from my heart. I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and pride for this program. I am so proud of my title (even if it was 8 years ago) and I am so proud of the Auburn community.

I pray that this controversy and hardship will only make us stronger as a community and family.

After those months of spending time with every contestant, it became very clear on what kind of person she was. So the statement we all made at the coronation was not because she was unpopular, but all of the drama that had swarmed around her since the 2nd practice. It continued to escalade as the time continued. The problem is, is that she never belonged in the Miss Auburn Program. Not because of living boundaries.. that's just contract. But because the Miss Auburn Program prides itself on bettering the lives of a handful of women each year. This is not a place to "pageant hop" to. I did not once see her gain anything from this program. She left the way she came in. And every other girl has left with more confidence in themeselves and outstanding interview skills that you can definitely see. She has left with Laura's Crown and scholarship money. She's already set, why does she need the money?" (from IP: 67.183.32.201 Source - Edit)

" I watched both nights, amazed at how 25 young women could be brave and savvy enough to "strut their stuff" Yes, I could see more talent and ability in some, Rudd included; but the reaction of the audience at the end left me bewildered. I too was shocked and amazed at the outcome of the pageant. I have never seen a more pitifull display of poor sportsmanship at a childrens BALLFIELD. It is no wonder pageants, their contestants, AND parents get stereotyped. Weren't we their to support our ladies win or lose? We knew there would be only one winner, did you go home and tell your daughter "She (Ms. Rudd) shouldn't have won?" or, "She shouldn't have been allowed to compete!" I have never met Ms. Rudd, she showed poise and talent both nights. From the comments at the theater, she wasn't very well liked. Maybe you, who don't like her, should go back to having popularity contests, that's what most people stereotype beauty pageants as anyway. In life, your going to lose more often than you win; shame on you parents who don't teach your children how to lose graciously, even to someone you dislike.

I hope the 'Miss.Auburn' folks are able to continue their good works in providing the city and community a well-run and valuable service.

"'How is it that you are blind to the horrible behavior over the past several months with Cara?'

-I was never around the contestants enough to see questionable behavior. Having a large dose of self-confidence and self-assurance, I suppose, can make a person, especially a female, come across as less-than-friendly.

'Breaking of several rules'

-According to the MASP President, Nancy Backus, she did not violate any rules in place. Read the newest article.

'and special treatment.'

-I am unaware of special treatment. I am aware that she took up opportunities that were offered to all participants.

'I don't know how you can ignore truths from your other contestants?'

-I'm looking at it like this: Many women in powerful positions (granted, Miss Auburn isn't exactly a Senator or a governor or a candidate for presidency or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company) didn't get that way by being warm and cuddly. They had to be assertive and go for it and possibly make a few enemies along the way.

'We are not upset they we didn't win. It is about honesty and integrity, or lack there of.'

-I know there are some girls who are upset they didn't win. I know there are some girls who are relieved they didn't win. I know most, if not all, of the girls are upset that SHE won. I can't comment on her honesty or integrity. I've only briefly met her a few times.

'As for me, the program has been very benficial personally. I have gained confidence, poise, grace, and the ability to spot B.S. when I see it.'

-I am pleased to see that you are aware of the benefits you have received. If it comes out that she has, in fact, not broken any rules, will you display that grace and poise? If she has, indeed, broken the rules, I can't blame you or any one of the other angry contestants for the vitriol in these responses.

HER LINK ON THE NEWS POST IS TO HER PAGE, NOT THE HOMEPAGE. I have had a lot of faith in this program, but you have lost it. It has never been about ME winning or any other of the 23 outstanding girls winning, it's about the fairness of this program. She has done a lot of unforgiveable things in the past and this year in the program. I will not be congratulating her at the award ceremony. Also, the opportunity to get together with board members was only offered publicly the last week before the final interviews. Only the returning girls and her knew about this opportunity before hand. I do not remember there ever being such a big deal about who won before. And please get it through your head that no on is jealous. We all know that Laura Heng is the true Miss Auburn 2008. Believe me, if Cara quits because of not winning Miss Washington and Laura has to step in, I guarantee you, there will be more than just dropping sponsors and supporters of the program, the program may fail to exist. Ally Cole - Miss Auburn 2000 on 02/04/2008 04:25:56 said:

I would not be the woman I am today without those that surrounded and taught me in that year?all of whom, are still involved in the pageant almost a decade later (saying that makes me feel old :).)

And if they are smart young women, they will welcome and embrace these lessons with open arms. I know that I entered my year as Miss Auburn a very na?ve 17 year old and I had to be taught what Auburn was truly about and what the title of Miss Auburn really meant. This committee is AMAZING at emphasizing those points to the current queen. The committee taught me that my first duty and obligation was to this amazing community and they would support me on my journey to state but they always emphasized that this title was so much more than a stepping stone to state.

I am human?I am not perfect and my words are far from perfect but I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and pride for this program. I am so proud of my title (even if it was 8 years ago) and I am so proud of the Auburn community.

If MASP is only to be a stepping stone for "bigger and better things", then just come out and say so, and stop misleading the Auburn community.

A program volunteer on 02/04/2008 02:05:21 said:

"I am dismayed at how events have unfolded since the moment of coronation.

First, our board is comprised of individuals who have given COUNTLESS hours, months, years of time as volunteers because they believe in the ultimate goal of getting these girls scholarship monies and a chance to better themselves in preparation for their futures. I have firsthand seen so much growth in so many girls both within a single MASP season and over the course of multiple seasons.

When they get over their anger and are able to look back at their time this year, regardless of the outcome and how they feel about it, they will all realize that not only did they come out with anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars for their education, but INVALUABLE interview skills, greater poise and increased self-confidence that they wouldn't otherwise have.

I am proud of ALL of the girls. They are all talented.

Ms. Rudd came across to me as a polished professional young woman who was not in the program to make friends, she was in it to win it. She is assertive and intelligent. She is talented, she interviews well, she looked beautiful in her lifestyle/fitness and eveningwear. Keep in mind that she was among the oldest, if not the oldest, and has been out of high school for several years now, so her head's in a different place from the younger contestants.

As for the nude thing, she's been involved in professional theater, and that's what professional performers do...they don't have time for modesty. I know that from experience.

If she chooses to retain her title, or is permitted to retain it, I wish her luck and hope she will be a great ambassador for the program.

I am sad for the girls who didn't win. I am sad for Cara. I am sad for the board members who are being attacked. I am sad for the integrity of the MASP being questioned. I will still support the program because the girls do get so much out of it.

While I understand the outrage, I am disappointed by the lack of grace portrayed by many of the girls who did not win. I wish I could remember the quote of a guest speaker at one of the MASP events who spoke of grace. It would serve us all well at all times to display grace in the face of adversity, of anger, of disappointment.

I hope that the Miss Auburn Scholarship Program comes out of this intact and that it will continue for years to come because it has provided so much for countless young women over the years. It saddens me to think that it will be tarnished. We had just topped ourselves as the local with the largest funds awarded in the country, something to be so proud of, at over $80,000 scholarship dollars! It is my fervent hope we will recover from this chaos and move forward intact. " (from IP: 192.254.1.7 Source - Edit)

This is really hurting not only the board and the contestants but the future generations. "This kind of stuff has been going on in WA State for years! What a joke! For ex. Lynae Thurik was a Miss WA who lived and worked in Oregon (but sold a few ads in WA - yeah that qualified her). The local pageant of the 1st runner up (also named Lynnae) protested, but to no avail (by the way she went on to become Miss WA USA). That was back in the 80's. Of course, Thurik did NOTHING at Miss America (where a talented, intelligent contestant would have made an impact). They (locals and state) will bend rules/rewrite as needed to get who they want. They will offer double titles (in areas like Grays Harbor with only a handful of contestants) instead of working to increase the scholarship dollars awarded. Many of the volunteers involved have never competed and it becomes a sick, vicarious twisted experience for them. They will even encourage girls to run who have no chance (except to embarrass themselves) just so they can sell more show tickets (each girl is "worth" so many seats - friends/family etc.). Too bad for Auburn. They actually have had a good reputation - lots of scholarship money and a reason to crown 2 girls. " (from IP: 67.40.219.87 Source - Edit)

If she was allowed to force her way in and stay in out of a CLEAR contract breach (no matter the cover-up) then what does that say if someone sticks up for it. They automatically become pregnant in the boards eyes or they used to be a man and they are disqualified. It was a completely unfair thing and she knew exactly what she was doing. I do not feel sorry for her. But like the angry auburn-grown contestant said.. this program has been about achieving personal growth and scholarship, not a title to use for Miss Washington. "If there really was an issue here before this thing began, then The parents of the other girls should have gone (BEFORE the competition) straight to the board about their concerns and let them deal with it from that point. If they did this and nothing was said or done, than they can bring it up to the powers above them, or other city officials who could explain or rectify the issue. Instead, you all choose to take the easy way and slam Cara (publicly) and place their anger on her. It's not as if she walked up to the judges and handed them a roll of bills. If she was allowed to enter for this scholarship opportunity, it's because someone on their committee allowed it...and the competition moves on. On the other hand though...if Cara should not have been allowed to enter because of her residency, and the by-laws show this, then something should be done to see why it happened and "who" was responsible. It certainly wasn't Cara though. These people need to all consider their actions for slamming her character in the press just to satisfy their feelings or anger at the "situation" itself. If there was some sort of favoritism then they should seek out who was to blame and go after that person...not Cara. Bottom line is, Cara is talented and bright and competitive. She goes after what she wants! This type of personality goes places in life because of their drive. People should take this as an example; to always press towards what they seek. Cara achieves the things she does because she earns them. This is the person I know and have seen grow up since she was 14.

If someone or some thing caused a slant on the judging or going against the rules, then I hope the parents go to the proper authorities and get it figured out. If that's the case and it's found to be, then the runner up will be rewarded. If not...then I suggest all of the people who commented in this forum step up to the plate and apologize publicly for bashing the character. Oh yeah, but there's a big problem with that theory...that's impossible unless they do it now! I hope Cara finds it in her heart to forgive the people who have made these remarks to her...they are terrible!

"It was actually the Miss Federal Way USA or Miss Auburn USA title(s) that Cara desired. Yes, USA has different rules and each contestant does pay a fee for the local title and state entrance. Miss Rudd battled for the Miss Federal Way USA title as it was already given to another participant in the WA USA Pageant. Miss Rudd did in fact contribute an amount far more generous than the state entrance fee of $1000. She was declared as Miss Federal Way USA over the other contestant. This contestant was indeed asked to choose another local title to represent that year. It is usually first come, first serve on local titles within WA USA. This however was an exception to the rule. Miss Rudd ended up withdrawing from the WA USA Pageant before the main event. Consequently, forfeiting her Miss Federal Way USA title. The Miss WA USA does acknowledge that the contestant who changed titles on Miss Rudd's behalf was clearly disappointed. Miss Rudd has not returned to the Miss WA USA Pageant." All the contestants did an excellent job and everyone is receiving scholarship money! This is why I love the program. Why shouldn't other young ladies deserve a chance to be in the program, if they don't have the opportunity in their city?

Now for the private coaching.... People on the board and others that are volunteers in the program have always offered help to any and everyone that seeks it out. Anyone of the young ladies could ask for extra help with interviews or any phase of competition. It is just a matter of taking advantage of all of us! We would never turn a contestant down if they wanted more help. That is what we are here for. I want every young lady to have the same experience that I had whether they win or not. I believe that all take a bit from each category. The Scholarship money is an awesome attribute to bettering ones self. I have followed this program and seen it first hand. I have had a daughter grow through the Little Sister program and then a Daughter as a Contestant. I have watched a tremendous growth it her and to all those who have been her mentors, I thank you! Tonight after reading Nancy's statement I have mixed emotions and will have to think twice before allowing my daughters and others that I know to compete. It is a shame that this was allowed to happen and that it was not stopped at the very beginning. Nancy next time you make a statement, please stick up for the other 23 young women also. They are the ones truly that have been hurt! By you sticking up for Cara and not for all of them, you have done the other Young Women a disgrace. Cara I am sure that you have good qualities and you are very talented. I understand the RULES; I have had the opportunity to read the Contract many times. Maybe this is a wake up call to all those wonderful Sponsors that have contributed Time and Money. I know that I will ask more questions before signing on to something that I may disagree with later.

Girls please don?t let this make you bitter. Money doesn?t buy everything?. As I stood there watching you all on stage pondering what to say to you??. I just want you to know that I am proud of you and your accomplishments. I don?t agree with the outcome! I don?t believe that this many people would be outraged and upset if there wasn?t some truth in all this. As for the Comment by the Volunteer?. I understand your view and good for you! But these Girls went through a lot with each other and you need to validate them too! You would not want them to hug someone or congratulate them, if that is not really how they felt?

I believe everyone has been affected by this. Auburn is a great place to live and even though we may not agree with the out come, we have a great leadership starting with our Mayor who is an incredible Man. It is my hope that from this we can change some of the rules that may not be in Auburns best interest! Stay positive Girls don?t play into the Deep negativism!

To all those who volunteered ??Thank you! I appreciate you and all the time and effort you put into the program. It was a wonderful year in scholarship money! Be Proud!

Nomination for a Schrammie on 02/04/2008 12:53:39 said:

"Dear Ken,

We would like to nominate the Miss Auburn Scholarship Pageant board for a ?Schrammie?. Julie Poe, Co-Executive Director, Donna Hamilton, Co-Executive Director, Nancy Karr Backus, President, and Mike Hamilton, Vice President. Oh and let?s not forget Mayor Pete Lewis.

As you may know, the Miss Auburn Scholarship Program is the largest and most successful local programs in our nation. It is the Auburn community, who provide the financial opportunities and volunteer hours to support this program.

The Pageant board reads out loud in detail the ?Miss Auburn? contract empathizing strict adherence to the rules and regulations. Once the contestants signs and notarizes the contract they go through an application/interview process and a 3 month learning experience.

Miss Auburn 2008, Cara Rudd was crowned last night. It came as no surprise to the other 23 that participated. During the past 3 months these young women have witnessed Cara Rudd break many of the rules and regulations with out being disqualified. Such as placing an article in the Federal Way News to solicit personal scholarship donations, displaying defiant behavior which was rewarded with private interview coaching with the co-executive director and the vice president of the pageant. None of the other contestants were given such compensation.

The pageant board promised each contestant a very challenging few months and they most certainly did. These contestants learned that it doesn?t matter how hard they try, or how much effort they put into their interviews, talents and poise, the contestant that has the most $ and breaks the most rules is the winner. They learned how corrupt the Miss Auburn Scholarship Pageant can be. Ken, you should have been there. None of the 23 contestants swarmed Rudd as is customary, instead they swarmed the 1st runner up.

It would be wonderful if you could present the ?Schrammie? during the Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Thursday, February 7, 2008 ? 7:00 p.m. at Emerald Downs.

I truly felt bad for her last night....after her crowning NO ONE would go near her. Last year when Devanni won she was hugged, rushed off the stage by the director's etc and then brought out to the lobby. After the show was over I saw Cara way in the back alone with her family...then I ran into her in the green room with her mother and she looked so sad. She just had this look of saddness on her face. So, she deserved a hug and that's what I gave her.

So, how would you feel if you were being slammed like this on a website?? Sure, I may not know how she is, but this is who the judges felt would be a GREAT representitive of Auburn AND she was very very polished, poised, and very talented on stage. You must admit she had one of THE BEST talents. Sure, I know that's not what it's all about but if you listened to her on stage question then you'd understand...she did great in EVERY phase of competition...So, you all need to quit your bickering and move on...we will crown a new one next year, let Cara have her moment.

I do agree however that the selection of Cara Rudd is a slap in the face to all the other girls who played fair and by the rules. This program will never seem fair again as long as Cara is Miss Lies, I mean Miss Auburn." (from IP: 24.18.39.127 Source - Edit)

" I am hoping to address the rumors and mistruths that have been posted here and replace them with truths. First, Cara Rudd qualified in our program under the "Next Closest Local" guideline - as required through the Miss America Organization. While it is unusual for our program to have contestants that do not live, work or attend school full-time in Auburn, it does happen. Usually, during the applicant phase of our program, we have enough Auburn applicants to fill all of the available openings that we have for our sponsors. This year, we had two young ladies that qualify under the Next Closest Local rule, and we had enough sponsors to allow their participation in our program. We value our sponsors tremendously. I'd be more than happy to talk with any of the sponsors who are disappointed or would like additional information.

I?ve worked with the Miss Auburn Scholarship Program (MASP) for 29 years, and am committed to providing scholarships for all of the young women that participate in our program. The integrity of our program is first and foremost in my mind as well as in the minds of our board of directors and volunteers. We have worked very hard to earn the trust and respect of our community and will continue to work hard to keep it.

There has been NO contract violation by Cara. While the MASP board should definitely have been informed of the article prior to being published, if you notice, there are absolutely NO quotes attributed to Cara in the article. All of the information was available via our website, where we posted information on all 24 of our contestants. She did receive a photo release from Select Photography, so, again, no violations contractual or legal! I truly wish that the Federal Way News would have taken the time to do an article on ALL of the contestants, but that unfortunately didn?t occur. We would welcome an opportunity to spotlight all of our contestants next year!

I am really confused as to how anyone would knows that Cara argued with and yelled at the panel of judges during her private interview. I was in the room during her interview, and I can assure you that there were NO arguments and she certainly did not ?fail? her interview! Those interviews are closed to the public - only the contestant, judges, judges' chairperson, Executive Directors and President are allowed in the room. All of the contestants were offered the opportunity to work with our Interview Chair for extra interview practice. Many of them used that opportunity - including Cara, but certainly not limited to Cara!

Not everyone is going to be happy with the selection of the volunteer judges ? any year, this one included. I can assure you that they are NOT paid or paid off! As I stated, I?ve been involved for 29 years and have not always agreed with the final outcome, but I am committed to our contestants, our program and all that it stands for!

Cara is a very talented and accomplished young woman. I have no doubt that she will work very hard to earn the respect of the Auburn community during her year of service as Miss Auburn. Will it be easy? NO, but the MASP volunteers are dedicated to providing a quality experience for all involved.

"wellll my dear sherri olsen. Before you go attacking other contestants and their talents , why dont you put on a tutu and prance around the stage like the real monkey you are. If you think that by degrading the other contestants your going to make you or cara feel any better your wrong. NO ONE HAS DENYED THAT CARA IS TALENTED AND BY STATING THE COMMENT ABOUT THEM BEING THE ONLY TALENT IS APPALING . Your either blind or tone deaf ... hell your probably both... CARA IS TALENTED NO ONE IS DENYING THAT ALRIGHT? I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE and get off the stage . the 24 girls that competed last night were all brave enough to put themselves on that stage and until you can do that i would keep your judgmental comments to yourself and realize that no one has said that cara does not have talent. That is not was dissapoints us auburn locals... if miss auburn was strctly and talented girl CARA WOULD BE THE JACKPOT but Miss auburn is so much more than talent its called Miss Auburn for a REASON and Im sorry that you dont agree with that." "I am not sure what went wrong last night. What I do know is that this program has helped so many young women not only earn scholarship money, but teaches them so many skills that they can take with them thru life. I have seen how they grow in confidence. I have always loved how the community and local businesses comes together to support our girls, I have always been proud of this. I truly hope we can work through this for the future girls who need and can benefit from this program. And for the person saying this is jealousy, I don't believe that is so, I know the girls would have supported any other contestant winning. They are wonderful, bright and talented women and to say Cara and Kathrine were the only really talented ones is EXTREMELY unfair. You obviously didn't listen or watch the whole program. As harsh as all of these things being said are what it comes down to is supposed to be picking the best girl to represent Auburn. Hopefully the board can fix this so we can come back stronger and better and more focussed on what this is supposed to be about, our girls. " (from IP: 209.91.60.22 Source - Edit)

"As far as names go, who cares if we put our names, we are either parents of contestants or contestants ourselves who want to RETURN for the spirit of Auburn and the wonderful scholarship opportunities and PERSONAL growth. I have made it quite clear to her that I do not respect her. I have gotten to "know" the real Cara. She is evil. Let?s start with how I came to my conclusion: She argued with the mayor of the very town she is, for now, representing by the second practice; insulting a wonderful city council woman because she thought that she was smarter than someone with 3 times the experience. Comments such as "I don't think I?ll win Miss Auburn because they don't want someone who will win Miss Washington"; doing an article about her and not the entire scholarship program or the contestants. For example, her link... goes to her page, not the home page; going to the board of Miss Washington to push the Miss Auburn Program to allow her in. I'm sorry, but I believe that those that need the growth and scholarship should be allowed. Every college that she has on her resume either doesn't exist, changed its name over 6 years ago, or she spelt it wrong. She was extremely rude to the only ladies advisor that would accept her. And her ladies advisor is one of the best and would do anything for anyone. She walked around nude in the back putting everyone from the dancers, singers, contestants and the little sisters of the program in an awkward stage throughout the whole experience. I believe it is in the Miss Auburn job description that she must be approachable, and I'm sorry, but anyone who refuses to put clothes ON is not approachable. She also needs to be beautiful from the INSIDE-OUT!!! And that definitely has not happened once while in the program with her. She lied in every single Sunday interview, saying that she volunteered in an elementary school "on the hill"? which hill?? There is more than one and they each have elementary schools on them, but she wouldn?t know that considering she doesn?t take the time to know Auburn. The fact that she is from another city is so small compared to everything else. 3 of the top 5 were from a different city. And 4 of the top 5 were outstanding women who I would have been proud to represent Auburn. I would have to say that you "named" people are right, she is determined and she does get what she wants, but it honestly doesn't matter to you how she gets it, does it? She paid over twice the amount to get the Des Moines title for the Miss Washington USA pageant and quit. By the way, she was Miss Federal Way before she bought the other title, funny how she runs back to Federal Way to break her contract with the Miss Auburn Program. I have followed the contract the whole time as did every single other contestant #1-23. I do not mind that I didn?t win; I just mind that she did. She is sincerely the most insincere person I have ever met. And please understand that I am a very honest and blunt person. I think actions speak louder than twisted words ever could! And that was shown at the coronation of the new Miss Auburn when we all did swarm Laura Heng. She didn?t even get the picture with the mayor!!! It?s not that we tried to find things that were wrong with Cara, they presented themselves just fine by themselves, it is the fact that not one of us enjoyed being around her. I am glad that she has swooned others, either family or friends of how great she is, because she will need their support when her title is revoked. I will be writing to Miss America and Miss Washington to let them know of the contract breach that would have been an immediate release of any other of the esteemed contestants that deserve that crown and the title of Miss Auburn more than she does. In fact, that contract breach and immediate release was practiced last year. With such an uprising of contestants, parents, sponsors, and citizens of Auburn, this problem will be fixed! It is unfortunate that Laura will not get her crowning moment but if everything goes the way it should have in the first place, we will use the first runner up rule and Laura will represent Auburn beautifully. I love you Laura!!" (from IP: 67.183.32.201 Source - Edit)

"Shari Olsen, give it a rest !

We can all stand the heat, can you? All of the other contestants were on the up and up, and stayed within the bounds of the Miss America contract that they signed and followed.

We repeat, it was noted in the very beginning, that Cara does not reside, work, or go to school in Auburn!

This is the # 1 disqualification of the Auburn pageant.

Maybe you better get your facts straight

before junping into to something you know nothing about.

You have not been behind the curtain on stage with this monster.

It is fact to the parents that a state representative with the Miss America Pageant did take a pay-off to keep it quiet about Cara not living, working, or going to school in the city of Auburn. This is a pre-requisite for the Auburn pageant.

Unfortuneatly, in defense of Donna & Mike Hamilton, they could not do anything about kicking her out of the program. They were told, "to ignore this fact with Cara". An official above them with the state pulled rank. Rumor has it that Donna & Mike are not going to be involved in the pageant next year. They are extremely frustrated and upset as well.

See, even the Executive Directors of the Miss Auburn Pageant have no power from Cara Rudd, her parents, and their dirty money!

We are hearing that Tami Bothel is taking over for next season. (Bothel Brothers Chevrolet). Tami, we as the 2008 parents wish you luck! We all love you and hope this horrible mess will stop. We will do everything to help support you in bringing this program back to what it used to be.

Hang in there!

"My my Dr. Brown, have the parents of the other contestants stuck a nerve with you?

Fot the sake of all the other contestants, the "2008 Miss Auburn coalition committee to bring justice and integrity back to our program, cannot devulge our names this week. Our young women are receiving their scholarsips on Thursday night @ Emerald Downs. To give our names on the blog at this time would jeopardize the academic monies for our daughters.

All you have to do is look at the program, you have all our names as parents.

It's a shame to know that corruption of this sort, continues to excel in our wonderful, local pageant.

FYI- All the contestants knew that Cara also received private coaching and directing from the head of the organization and her husband the past several months, this was no secret.

This against the by laws of the Miss America contract as well.

Everyone should have pulled out at that time, but they all were suckered in to this fairy tale of a program.

Laura Heng is the true Miss Auburn 2008!

You ask any of the other women, and they will agree!

All of the women have vowed not to congratulate her this week at the awards ceremony. How will the litle miss Sweetie respnd to this situation.

Our young women are a far better judge of character about Cara than you are. She obviously shows you the side she wants you to see.

Try working with the little back stabber and witch for several months.

She showed every one how not to act in a Christian manner.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Im sure that in the privacy of her own home nad/or with friends and family cara is very compassionate and caring and all the things you have said ... however... you mr. lang and any others who WERE NOT AROUND WHEN THE CURTAIN WENT DOWN.. do not know the personality and traits in which miss rudd portrays. Unfortunatly the caring compassionate woman you spoke of did not make an appearance the last 3 months during the miss auburn program. I would however appreciate it if people would stop insulting other contestants who did not win nor place.
