" Josh,
I think the students would be better served by learning Newtonian physics or for that matter, any real science, rather than Al Gore's climate change cartoon. If you want your kids to see the movie, rent it and show it to them. The purpose of school is not to show a deeply flawed layperson's view of the most extreme GCM scenarios. If a school board steps in to prevent such nonsense - more power to them. Children in school should not be sitting around watching movies, regardless of the topic. Teachers - teach. "

" I think it's safe to say this school board will soon ban all teaching of Newtonian physics in order to present the opposing viewpoint of the theory of Intelligent Falling. It's funny that this country was founded on the ideals of the Enlightenment, during the time of Jefferson, Paine, Locke, and Voltiare; we now are reverting back to the education levels of the early Middle Ages. This school board may as well quit teaching science altogether. "

" The school district has a policy, that policy was upheld. I'd give the school Board 5 stars and a pat-on-the-back. (no conservative here, I'm middle of the road by the way.....)
Policy aren't in place for just when they're popular.
And if we hop on the "appease a few, rankle the majority" bandwagon, lets bring up Christmas.......
Norway and Sweden? Bedrocks of the education system for sure...... Give me a break. "

" Just buy a copy of UNSTOPPABLE GLOBAL WARMING EVERY 1,500 YEARS, if you would like to get the facts from scientists from all over the world, not just those whose livelihood depends upon grants from the environmental foundations.
All this hullabaloo about "fighting global warming" is the media term to arouse the reader. Our world's climate, not weather, is the result of the earth's continued change in its relationship to the sun, our primary source of heat and energy, as well as changes in the sun's radiation largely due to periods of sun spot activity. " Who cares whether it is 100% human caused oe 1%, we will witness the next global thermal maximun over the next century.
What is truth is that the effects are leveling cities(New Orleans), creating droughts, flooding coastlines, reducing the available frozen fresh water storage in the mountains, disrupting crop and wildlife breeding schedules, and poking holes in the ozone.
Knowing the effects at least gives us the chance to prepare for it. Wheteher we can do anything about stopping the train is pointless when it is 5 feet away.
Burning books is so 1940's. If censorship is our school's answer, why should we expect any more out of President Bush?
Does his "No student left behind" proposal mean that all children will go to heaven together when our civilization collapses? "

" The issues surrounding global climate change (the science, the politics and what should be done about it) are far more complicated and nuanced than what is presented in the movie. A responsible school has no business showing a movie that intentionally muddles the correlation between temperature and CO2 in the proxy data, PhotoShops satellite photos, cites the most extreme scenarios (spit out by the latest general circulation models) and then "calls for action." I have heard it said that "Gore basically gets the science right." Of course he is busy personally training 1000 volunteers to "spread the word" about manmade greenhouse gases etc... A recent story quoted one of the new Gore trained fear-mongers discussing her "wake up call" - "if Greenland melts the seas will rise 20 feet." Well, that sure doesn't seem to "get the science right." Let's teach the kids about the scientific process, basic earth sciences, physics, chemistry, math, logic etc... Let's save the political indoctrination until they are ready - you know - college. "

" The fact that the three Board members had not seen the movie when they cast their vote speaks volumes about the veil of ignorance that continues to cloud discussions of global warming in the U.S.
Most of the rest of the world understands what is at stake in this discussion, as those of us who monitor the world press observe on a daily basis.
The Scopes "monkey trial" occurred more than eighty years ago, and ignorant people are still debating evolution. Apparently some Americans will still be climate change skeptics when the Greenland ice sheet melts later in this century and the Midwest is a permanent dustbowl. Isn't it time our nation listen to the scientific community on this issue? "
